Los Niños Synagis Program

Los Niños is offering its annual Outpatient Synagis Program to help prevent RSV (Respiratory Syncitial Virus) in high risk infants. Synagis injections are given on an outpatient basis located in a clean environment in one of our six beautiful locations in Phoenix, Tucson, Gilbert, Flagstaff, Prescott and Denver.

What is RSV?

RSV is a common virus that affects infants, children and adults. It usually causes mild to moderate cold like symptoms in infants and children, and nearly all children by age 2 have been infected. High risk infants such as those born premature, with Chronic Lung Disease, or Congenital Heart Disease are at risk for severe RSV disease because their lungs and immune systems are not fully developed. Each year 100,000 babies are hospitalized with RSV and approximately 4.5% of these babies will die. Symptoms of RSV disease include fever, runny nose, coughing, wheeze, difficulty breathing, apnea, and decreased oral intake.

Appointments

Synagis appointments last approximately 25-30 minutes long. An experienced pediatric nurse is on site, and emergency equipment is available at all times to care for the over 1,000 infants we see annually. Families are given educational information and monthly appointments throughout the RSV season.
